12 Corps Commander Quetta Lt. Gen Sarfraz Ali Sumro was Pakistani Army officer, martyred in Pakistani Army helicopter crash.

The wreckage of the military helicopter that crashed in Balochistan’s Lasbela district has been found on Tuesday and six people, including Corps Commander Quetta Lt. Gen. Sarfraz Ali, have been martyred in the crash.

The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) of the Pakistani Army said on Monday night that the Army Aviation helicopter went missing on its way to Karachi from Othal on Monday evening.

The helicopter took off from Othal area at 5:10 PM and was supposed to reach Karachi at 6:50 PM, but it lost contact with Air Traffic Control on the way.

A search operation for the helicopter was launched soon after the helicopter lost contact with air traffic control.

Who is Lt Gen Sarfraz Ali?

Lieutenant General Sarfraz Ali, who belonged to Lahore, got commissioned in Azad Kashmir Regiment of the Pakistan Army in 1989 and was part of 79th Long Course.

When the current Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa was commanding 10 Corps, Lieutenant General Sarfraz Ali was commanding the Triple One Brigade as Brigadier.

He continued to serve as Defense Attaché in the Embassy of Pakistan in the United States.

After returning from America, Lieutenant General Sarfraz Ali was appointed Commandant of Staff College, Quetta, after which he also served as the Director General of Military Intelligence (MI).

Later, he was appointed IG of FC Balochistan South, area where his helicopter crashed.

He promoted from Major General to Lieutenant General in November 2020 and posted as the Commander Southern Command in Balochistan.

The name of this corps was later changed to 12 Corps Quetta.

Lt Gen Sarfraz Ali was awarded the highest honors of Pakistan Army like Hilal Imtiaz and Tagha Basalat.

In December 2021, Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa appointed him Colonel Commanding of Azad Kashmir Regiment.

One of Lt General Sarfaraz sons, who was also his ADC, was also with him yesterday. However, when the helicopter took off from Quetta, he was onto another helicopter and reached the destination safely.

Among the others on the helicopter with him was DG Coast Guards Major General Amjad Hanif Sati, who was promoted to the rank of Major General during the Army’s promotion board last week.

Brigadier Khalid, who was in the helicopter, belonged to the Corps of Engineers.
